2020 Top 100 MLB Prospects: Wander Franco Is No. 1

For the second consecutive year, there is consensus among Baseball America staffers when it comes to the No. 1 prospect in baseball. 

Rays wunderkind Wander Franco remains in the top spot, which he assumed last season after Vladimir Guerrero Jr. graduated and entrenched himself at third base for the Blue Jays. Vlad Jr. was also a consensus No. 1 prospect last year. 

It also marks two consecutive years a Dominican Republic native enters the season as the top-ranked prospect. Amazingly, Guerrero Jr. and Franco are the only two Dominican players to own the distinction. 

Franco, 18, hit .327/.398/.487 across two levels last year, ending the year in the Florida State League. He struck out just 35 times all season (compared to 56 walks) and also swiped 18 bags. You can read a full scouting report on Franco here.

Luis Robert, Gavin Lux, Nate Pearson and Jo Adell all factored into the runner-up conversation behind Franco this year.

The Rays again lead all teams with eight Top 100 prospects. Last year both Tampa Bay and San Diego tied the record for most preseason Top 100 prospects with nine players. 

The Dodgers (7 players), Twins (6 players) and Padres (6 players) are also featured prominently in 2020. 

Milwaukee is the only team without a Top 100 prospect, the first time it’s without a player on the list since 2011.
