2020 Prospect Position Rankings: Third Base — College Baseball, MLB Draft, Prospects

Each year, following the release of our Top 100 prospects, Baseball America ranks the top prospects in baseball by position. You can find our position-by-position rankings here.

Here are the top third base prospects for 2020.

Best Bat: Alec Bohm, Phillies. Hitters as tall and long-levered as Bohm usually struggle to make consistent contact. But Bohm’s hand-eye coordination and excellent understanding of the strike zone allow him to both make an above-average amount of contact, and to do damage when he does make contact. He should be able to hit for average, get on base and hit for power in the majors.

Best Glove: Ke’Bryan Hayes, Pirates. Hayes’ bat has not progressed as quickly as expected, but there is a lot to love with his glove. He is a smooth, consistent and polished defender at third base who can be a plus glove at the hot corner.

Sleeper: Kevin Padlo, Rays. Padlo struggled after being traded to the Rays before the 2016 season. Injuries were one of the main reasons for his mediocre performance. In 2019, he was healthy and he showed up in better shape. He responded with an outstanding year split between Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham. He was added to the 40-man roster this offseason and now has a shot to play in Tampa Bay at some point this season.
