2017 State Draft Report: Alabama

CROP RATING
updated_state_rating_five_star One for the books
Rating compares this year’s group to what a state typically produces, not to other states

Since 2007, 38 players from Alabama have been drafted in the top five rounds. The most productive years in the past decade have been 2007 (Josh Donaldson, Tommy Hunter) and 2008 (Craig Kimbrel, Alex Avila). This year, Alabama has a little bit of everything. Bubba Thompson is among the toolsiest players in this year’s class, and could rise up even more than expected on draft day. After Thompson, the state has three promising prep arms in Tanner Burns,  Caden Lemons and Jacob Heatherly.

The college ranks also bring plenty to the table. Auburn’s Keegan Thompson is a polished college righty, and junior college pitchers Blake Rivera and Chandler Newman both have high ceilings.
