Trejo served as the Aztecs' starting second baseman and leadoff hitter and performed in that role, hitting .336 in the regular season this spring, but it is as a pitcher he intrigues most evaluators. A standout pitcher in high school, Trejo logged his first significant college innings as a junior and sat 88-92 mph in relief with a promising slider, despite rust and his position-playing responsibilities. Overall he went 2-2, 3.00 with 15 strikeouts and two walks in 18 innings for the Aztecs in the regular season. Trejo has to develop his secondaries, but he showed enough stuff and a fearless mentality to garner interest from teams as a potential reliever. As a position player he hits for contact, has a good arm and is instinctive defensively in the middle infield, but most evaluators feel his chance to rise highest in pro ball comes on the mound.
