A two-way star at Michigan, Benedetti disappointed this season because both at the plate and on the mound he took a step back as a junior. There's a healthy debate as to whether he'll hit or pitch as a pro. Benedetti impressed in the Cape Cod League last summer as a lefty reliever. He struck out 11 in only six innings thanks to a 92-94 mph fastball that he controlled. This spring he was more often 88-90 with a 91 popping up on the radar gun every now and then. His breaking ball is erratic and below average. His changeup has developed into his second-best pitch with some deception and depth, but it's a fringe-average pitch at best. At the plate, Benedetti has average raw power that doesn't show up in games often (and scouts will remember his zero home runs in the Cape last summer). Benedetti does have enough athleticism to move to a corner outfield spot as well, and could pick up when he settles on playing on one side of the ball.
