Jared Oliva

Arizona found Oliva at a tryout camp, playing on one of the back fields of their Hi Corbett Field complex. He'd been buried on his high school roster, but never gave up on himself. Andy Lopez's coaching staff encouraged him to walk on, and Oliva redshirted as a freshman before blossoming late in Arizona's 2016 run to the College World Series. He took a leap in 2017, ranking second to teammate J.J. Matijevic among Pac-12 players with 24 doubles as he peppered Hi Corbett's spacious gaps with above-average raw power. He's physical at 6-foot-2, 194 pounds and he is an above-average runner as well. His inexperience shows in his jumps both defensively and on the basepaths, his fairly raw defensive skills in center field and his feel for hitting. He has some swing-and-miss to his game and needs polish to profile as a potential power-speed center fielder.
