Barash graduated from high school five months early so he could start his playing career at Louisiana State early, but then he ended up transferring after playing sporadically as a freshman. After a year at Palm Beach State (Fla.) CC, Barash transferred to Texas A&M where he has been a two-year starter. Barash's receiving ability will get him drafted as an excellent defender who will sign for modest money as a senior sign. Barash isn't a great athlete and his throwing arm is fringe-average at best if accurate, but he blocks balls well, has a quiet left hand to present pitches and he handles a pitching staff well. Offensively, Barash makes contact, but that's pretty much the extent of his offensive contribution. He projects as a below-average hitter with very little power potential. He projects as a bottom of the order hitter or backup, but his defensive skills will make him a useful draftee. Because he graduated from high school early, Barash is still only 21 years old, adding to his value as a senior sign.
