Deichmann ranked 404th on the BA 500 coming out of high school as scouts loved his power but knew he'd have to move off of shortstop as he matured. Scouts can feel a little easier about betting on his bat now after he's hit for power for two seasons with the Tigers--through mid-May he ranked second in the Southeastern Conference in home runs. Deichmann was buried on the bench as a freshman as he battled a foot injury, but became LSU's first baseman as a sophomore before moving to right field this year. Deichmann's plus lefthanded power is his calling card; he has above-average bat speed and uses his lower-half well to generate tape-measure home runs. There will always be plenty of strikeouts to go with the home runs as his swing tends to be grooved, but Deichmann also knows how to take a walk when pitchers try to stay away from his power. He projects as a below-average hitter, but one who could hit 25-30 home runs in a season eventually. Defensively, he should be solid average in either left or right field with average speed and some feel for running the bases.
