A stress fracture in his lower back and his Stanford commitment pushed Taylor to the 14th round in the 2011 draft, where he turned down the Angels. Taylor has top-round tools and was finally hitting like it late in his junior season, helping Stanford push toward a regional bid. Athletic for a catcher at 6-foot-1, 205 pounds, Taylor has plus arm strength. He often caught Mark Appel in his first two seasons on The Farm but had to move to left field this year to relieve the mental load of throwing issues behind the plate and contact issues at the plate. Taylor has plus power potential and improved offensively after working hard in the cage and opening up his stance a bit, but his aggressiveness gets the better of him at the plate. He's a .250 hitter in 188 career Cape Cod League at-bats with four home runs, and some think he'll hit better with wood. His profile as a potential lefthanded-hitting catcher and strong finish to the season could push him up draft boards.
