One of the better athletes in the college game, English was an immediate two-way contributor for the Gamecocks. He features three plus tools but has not developed his all-around game as scouts had hoped. A plus-plus runner with range to the gaps, he is one of the best defensive center fielders in the draft, and some evaluators he could handle center field in the big leagues right now. He also brandishes a true plus arm that is among the best in the college game. He has drawn comparisons to Shane Robinson as a righthanded hitter who is a lean 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds with true center-field tools, but his bat is falls short of Robinson's. Although he has a short, quick stroke with some bat speed, English projects as a below-average hitter with bottom-of-the-scale power. He too often tries to hit for power and strikes out at a 23 percent clip. When he does make contact, English's speed and athleticism play out of the box with a .385 career BABIP.
