McClain was redshirted as a freshman at Georgia in 2012 as he worked his way back from a shoulder injury that sidelined him for almost his entire senior season of high school. After that redshirt, McClain transferred to State College of Florida-Manatee CC, then made it back to the Southeastern Conference as a very durable and reliable member of Missouri's rotation in 2015 and 2016. McClain is more noted for his plus control and savvy than any plus pitch. He sits 87-91 mph with an above-average changeup and a fringy breaking ball. With a stellar 94-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio this year, McClain will be a solid senior sign.
