Smith won't turn 18 until the end of September, making him one of the youngest players in the class. He has already shown promising tools, but most of them grade out around average and he'll need more time to hone them. Smith has a short, quick swing that creates good bat speed. He has average raw power now and should add more as he physically matures. He's a solid-average runner with above-average arm strength, but needs work in the outfield and profiles best as a right fielder. Smith has a good foundation and some feel for the game, but remains more about projection than present tools. A team that believes there's more in there waiting to be unlocked could take him early enough to keep him from getting to Georgia, where he is committed.
