Carey, who came out of the vaunted Georgia high school class of 2010, has long been considered one of the better athletes in college baseball. His production did not equal his tools in his first three years in college, and he went undrafted last year and had batted .250/.350/.340 for his career. The 22-year-old took a leap forward as a senior after adding more than 10 pounds to his athletic 6-foot-2, 207-pound frame. He has the ability to handle center but not as a plus defender. He is an average runner out of the box who is plus under way, with an above-average arm. Carey has average bat speed with some length, profiling as a below-average hitter. He hit .310/.400/.480 this season by cutting his strikeout rate from 19 percent to 14 percent, and his power played more in game action. He has at least average raw pull power, with his power playing mostly to the gaps.
