In a season with few draft-eligible aces going on Friday nights in the Pacific-12 Conference, Watrous has emerged as one of the league's top arms. He doesn't have ace numbers for a last-place Utah team (3-6, 4.07), but the 6-foot, 200-pounder combines competitiveness, durability and good stuff and profiles as a fifth- to seventh-round choice. Watrous has good control of his 90-92 mph fastball that bumps 94 regularly, and some scouts believe he has the fastball command to start as a pro. He holds his velocity deep into starts and has held it throughout the season. His best secondary pitch is his slider, an average pitch that he throws for strikes, and he has an inconsistent changeup as well as a slow curveball. Poor run support led him to press at times, as he knew any mistake could cost him the game. He lacks projection and profiles as a back-of-the-rotation starter.
