Cross is the son of one-time NBA player Jeff Cross, and while he didn't quite inherit the height of his 6-foot-10 father, Cross has plenty of athleticism. He stands at 6-foot-6 and works with a balanced, repeatable delivery. Cross's stuff is not overwhelming, but he has excellent command of his late-moving fastball and has developed a potential above-average slider. Cross was drafted by the Pirates as a redshirt sophomore back in 2013, but opted to return to UConn. He then suffered a shoulder injury that sidelined him for all of 2014. This season, Cross picked up right where he left off, and was one of the top performers in the American Athletic Conference. Cross pitches in the upper 80s with his fastball, and can creep into the low 90s on the right day, but he is mostly a sinker-and-slider arm. Some scouts like Cross as a potential back-of-the-rotation starter.
