Katz should be a senior pick in the first 10 rounds and brings some upside, as he led the Southeastern Conference in RBIs and ranked second in home runs this season. LSU has moved him all over the diamond to get his bat in the lineup, including right field and center field. Even at 5-foot-10, 188 pounds, he has primarily been a first baseman the last two years and has hit for profile power at the spot. He hit 13 homers in LSU's first 27 games, then had a 25-game homerless streak before a homer against Ole Miss in mid-May. Katz has been patient as he had been pitched around in league play. Scouts don't doubt his power but wonder if his swing will be too long to handle elite velocity. He's a solid athlete and average runner who could handle a move back to an outfield corner. Some scouts would like to try him at third, and he played second base against Ole Miss after JaCoby Jones was sidelined by a left hand injury.
