Samayoa was born in Mexico and attended two junior colleges before landing at NAIA power Lee, which had three pitchers drafted in the first 11 rounds. He was the second one picked and thrived as the team's No. 2 starter, going 10-1, 1.73. Samayoa relieved last year and could return to that role but has the pitchability to start. He throws an 88-92 mph fastball and bumps 93 at times. His curveball is his best secondary pitch, and he throws strikes with his slider and change when he's at his best. Lee coach Mark Brew says Samayoa was one of his best competitors and lauded his makeup and work ethic.
