Scouts keep expecting to see more out of Gregor, a corner player and three-year starter for Vanderbilt who looks the part, but whose production has declined each season. He was stuck on three home runs for the third straight year and hasn't tapped into the raw power in his 6-foot-3, 215-pound body. Gregor has a solid approach at the plate and ranks among the nations leaders in walks. He also runs well and is a savvy basestealer (18-for-20), but he may wind up as a senior sign next year.

The Astros believed in Gregor's plate discipline and raw power when they selected him in the fourth round of the 2013 draft and signed him for $481,900. He hit just nine home runs at Vanderbilt as a three-year starter, but he delivered 16 bombs at three levels in 2014, a season he finished at Double-A Corpus Christi. Skeptics can point to the fact that 10 of the 16 homers came in hitter-happy conditions at high Class A Lancaster. Nevertheless, Gregor continues to show outstanding plate discipline to go with solid-average hitting ability. The lefthanded hitter draws walks and now drives pitches more often, tapping into his average raw power, particularly to right-center field. His large frame and swing path portend more power. He's an average runner and below-average defender at first. Gregor will have to produce to distinguish himself on the Astros' first-base depth chart, which includes Jon Singleton in Houston, Telvin Nash at Triple-A and 2014 second-round pick A.J. Reed at high Class A.
