Plaia isn't a flashy prospect, but he's a quality senior catcher with good makeup, a sturdy frame and solid catch-and-throw skills. He spent last summer with USA Baseball's collegiate national team and handled the staff well. His best tool is his accurate, slightly above-average arm. He's an average defensive catcher and a natural leader. He's not a bad situational hitter, but his strength-oriented swing lacks fluidity, and he projects as a below-average hitter. He flashes occasional pull power but won't be an impact offensive player. His all-around package gives him a chance to be a backup catcher in the big leagues.
