Some see Clark as the next Magic Johnson, a 6-foot-7, three-point shooting phenom with the ability to alter the course of a basketball game. Others view Clark as the second coming of Darryl Strawberry, a willowy switch-hitter with power from both sides of the plate. He also excels in the classroom, where he carries a 3.39 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Last year while at San Diego’s Valhalla High, he belted 11 home runs and was named to the all-county team. He transferred to Christian for his senior season, but the scouts didn’t lose track of him, especially after he started the ‘90 season by going 15-for-26 with five homers in his first 10 games. In one game, he hammered three home runs, one to each field. Opinions on the pitcher-shortstop-outfielder vary. But not much. Some say he could be the first player chosen in the June draft. Others say he could still be around after 10 players are taken. But no one disputes he’ll be taken in the first round. If he’s signable.
