A high school teammate of Reds’ righthander Hunter Greene, Gordon effectively moved into the Texas rotation in 2022, when he posted a 3.05 ERA over 16 starts and 85.1 innings. He was even better in 2023, when he posted a 2.63 ERA over 17 starts and 102.2 innings with a 24.1% strikeout rate and 8% walk rate as one of the most consistent starters in the country. Listed at 6-foot-1, 193 pounds, Gordon is a pitchability lefthander with a short, quick arm action and high, three-quarter slot. He pitches in the 88-90 mph range and has touched 93, though he throws his fastball for a strike nearly 70% of the time. His 78 mph changeup is his go-to secondary, a pitch that has anywhere from 8-12 mph of separation off his fastball and looks like an above-average offering after generating a 48% miss rate this spring. Gordon also throws a shorter slider in the 78-82 mph range, but it’s a below-average pitch. He likely profiles best as a lefty specialist, middle reliever type in pro ball, though if he can unlock a bit more velocity there’s a bit more upside potential considering his strong track record as a starter in the Big 12.
