One of the best two-way players in college baseball, Burleson has been a reliable first baseman and lefthanded pitcher at East Carolina and served in both roles for USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team last summer. Burleson hit .267/.353/.467 in eight games with the national team and also posted a 2.53 ERA in 10.2 innings out of the bullpen. Most teams prefer Burleson as a hitter moving forwardl. He hit .341/.387/.496 in his career with the Pirates and projects as an above-average hitter with a good natural feel for the barrel. Burleson has shown solid raw power in batting practice, but that has translated more to doubles in games, although he did hit a career-high nine home runs as a sophomore. Burleson is a below-average runner who is serviceable in the corner outfield defensively, but he is a better fit at first base, where coaches praise his footwork and hands. Though he is accomplished on the mound, Burleson throws a fastball with well below-average fastball velocity and doesn’t have any pitch that is above-average. Burleson's bat is his only above-average tool, but it's the most important one. His potential to hit and add power has teams interested in the top five rounds.
