The redshirt sophomore pitched well for Team USA last summer as well as in the Cape Cod League. With plenty of scout attention heading into the spring, Kirschsieper delivered once again, posting a 7-2 record with a 3.40 ERA. In the age of power pitching, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound Kirschsieper dissects lineups with an efficient three-pitch mix, locating all of his pitches with exceptional command. He has a fastball that can be clocked anywhere between 86-91 mph with sneak present, perhaps due to his consistent, smooth delivery. Assisting his fastball’s effectiveness is his plus changeup he keeps away from righthanded hitters. He sells it well with fastball arm action, and the late, fading action it presents causes headaches for middle-of-the-order power bats. Topping off his mix is a sweeping 79-82 mph slider that he uses against both lefthanded and righthanded hitters. With the ability to throw any pitch at any time, Kirschsieper’s game should transition well into pro ball.
