Gonzalez is an on-base machine who managed a .442 on-base percentage over three years at Georgia Tech with more walks (91, 15.9 BB%) than strikeouts (74, 13.0 K%) for his career. During his junior 2022 season, Gonzalez hit .339/.458/.474 with five home runs and 14 doubles and he’s also shown similar plate discipline in the Cape Cod League, where he hit .331/.418/.380 with 17 walks and 15 strikeouts in 32 games in 2021. A 6-foot, 185-pound outfielder, Gonzalez is an excellent contact hitter who rarely swings and misses (just an 11% whiff rate this spring) but has always lacked home run power. His five home runs were a career high and his raw power and exit velocities suggest a hitter who will always be more of a gap-to-gap doubles bat than a slugger. Because of that, Gonzalez could be a tweener profile if he doesn’t stick in center field and he’s played mostly left field throughout his college career despite being a good runner. If he can’t play center, his arm makes him a better fit for left and at that point he’ll need more power to profile as even a part-time big leaguer.
