Huff is the son of former Angels and Red Sox scout Tim Huff and was drafted by the Rays in the 32nd round out of high school. He instead made it to campus at Stanford and became the Cardinal's everyday catcher, leading the team to the College World Series each of the last two years. Huff is a prototypical "baseball rat" who has an advanced feel for the game and a high baseball IQ. He has a solid approach at the plate and rarely swings and misses or chases out of the strike zone. He has quiet, quick hands and a fluid swing path that generates line drives to all fields. He isn't particularly big at 5-foot-10, 198 pounds, but he can generate average pullside power with his high leg kick. Huff manages a staff well behind the plate, calls his own game and is a solid blocker and receiver. He threw out 37% of basestealers this spring and projects to be an average defender with an average arm. Huff isn't particularly physical and he doesn't have any plus tools, but his well-rounded game and advanced instincts give him a chance to be a backup catcher. He projects to be taken on the draft's second day.
