A hefty, 6-foot, 235-pound righthander, Smith is a four-year reliever who has appeared in more than 85 games and pitched more than 140 innings for Canisius. As a senior in 2018, Smith finished the season with 10 saves, a 0.98 ERA and 43 strikeouts—but 20 walks–in 36.2 innings. Smith mostly pitches with a fastball that sits 86-89 mph, but he has both a curveball and slider that flash as above-average pitches. The biggest concerns with Smith is his command and lack of velocity, but he had an impressive summer in the New England Collegiate League in 2017, when he didn’t allow a run in 19.1 innings, striking out 38 hitters while walking only four.
