Scouts have gotten plenty of looks at Serven, a three-year starter behind the plate for the Sun Devils, but opinions on his role at the professional level vary significantly. Some observers see an offense-first catcher who may need to move out from behind the plate while others see his glove carrying him at the next level. He struggles at blocking balls behind the plate and doesn't keep the ball in the batting zone. His long arm action detracts a bit from his strong arm that still allowed him to throw out 42 percnet of basestealers. The 6-foot, 218-pounder makes good contact at the plate and flashes more doubles power than over-the-fence pop. There's some strength to his swing but he doesn't use his hands well. Serven is a below-average runner but not a base-clogger.
