  Ranked Colorado Rockies #30 prospect in 2019
  Track Record: A third baseman his sophomore year at Washington, MacIver assumed more catching duties as a junior, which caught the Rockies' attention. He went into his junior year in 2018 projected to be one of the top 100 college players off the draft board. However, MacIver suffered a hamate injury in late March and missed nearly two months. He finished with a .232 average, three home runs and 24 RBIs. Rockies scouting director Bill Schmidt never forgot what he saw from MacIver in the Cape Cod League in the summer of 2017 and didn't hesitate when the catcher was still on the board in the ninth round.
  
  Scouting Report: MacIver is athletic enough and has a strong enough arm to catch in the big leagues. He has adapted well to the full-time challenge. He appeared in 31 games at short-season Boise behind the plate, and 23 others at DH. He has the offensive potential to be an impact player, which he showed in the Northwest League by hitting .284 with 30 RBIs in 213 at-bats.
  
  The Future: The Rockies have a lack of depth at catcher. MacIver has a chance to move quickly through the system if he shows the ability to handle the receiving chores. Having played first base and third base as well as catching at Washington, he is more agile than most catchers.

Draft Prospects

• Ranked #314 prospect in 2018 draft
  MacIver missed the first month and a half of the season with a broken hamate bone, and he has struggled with the bat since returning to Pac-12 play, hitting .257/.339/.349 through his first 30 games. MacIver intrigues scouts as a strong, physical catcher behind the plate with with plus arm strength, but Washington has played him primarily at third base and first base. His tools profile much better behind the dish, but it's been a challenge for area scouts to get looks at him in catcher's gear. With just four collegiate home runs to his name, the bat doesn't profile well at either corner infield position.

  One of the Rockies' three Futures Game representatives in Denver, MacIver showed improved power to match with athletic defense behind the plate. His 14 homers through 64 games were one more than his career-high for a season, which came in 2019 in hitter-friendly Asheville, then the team's Low-A affiliate.
